7/2009, our 1 year anniversary in the house
saturday night brian and i sat on the front porch swing watching flames devour the mountain adjacent to our house. the fire was burning at the creek a few miles away. our home was never threatened, but with unpredictable 50 mile an hour winds, that could have changed at any moment. i quickly packed an 'in case of evacuation' basket and set it next to the front door.i keep looking at that basket. it keeps reminding me how much time, effort, and energy we waste on stuff. to think that we could (easily) fill a gigantic moving van with all of our stuff, when all that matters is a laundry basket full of sentiment.

I'm so glad your house is ok!! I couldn't believe it when I read online that the evacuation site was your local high school.
I love that picture because you are grinning so huge and Brian has his standard picture face. :)
you are so right. when i moved from switzerland to the us, i brought only the sentimentals and a few essentials. it was hard starting new, but you know what, i survived. glad you did not have to evacuate though!!
I'm so glad that your sentiments fit in a laundry basket. probably photos. at least you can tell yourself that you know what is important and sentimental to you. your family. glad to have a friend with her head on straight.
